Born from an industrial blind spot.

The question began in Tampere: could cotton fibre left behind by textile mills replace the plastic foam we use every day? Pesukarhu turns that overlooked material into reusable tools for homes and protective packaging, with support from Finland’s innovation ecosystem.

FAQs

What is Pesukarhu made from, and is it suitable for food contact?

The material is EU-certified for food contact, and its resin contains no formaldehyde. Food-contact certification is specific; it does not mean “chemical-free”. The cotton is strengthened with natural resin, and use should follow the product’s intended purpose and care instructions. Read the material details.

Can I use the same pad for kitchen dishes and the shower or sauna?

Keep separate pads for kitchen cleaning and body care. Choose kitchen formats for dishes and worktops, and sauna formats for washing and exfoliation. Different colours or patterns make it easy to keep the two routines apart. Explore the Home Set.

Will Pesukarhu scratch my Teflon, enamel cookware, or induction glass cooktop?

Cotton loops provide scrubbing grip, but delicate finishes still need a spot test. Use the least abrasive option that works, follow your cookware maker’s care instructions and test a hidden area first. Surface finish, trapped grit and pressure all affect the result. Read the surface guidance.

How do I wash and sanitise the pad?

Dishwasher only: wash at 40–60°C, following the product care label. Rinse away loose residue first and let the pad dry fully afterwards. Washing refreshes the cotton loops; it does not guarantee sterilisation or a validated level of sanitisation. See how to wash and dry it.

Where do I buy Pesukarhu?

Explore products and choose your format here on Pesukarhu. When you are ready to buy, checkout takes place through our official retail partner, Skopenhagen. Final prices and availability are confirmed there. Explore the collection.

Does it require an industrial composting facility to break down?

In our heavily composting soil trial, breakdown took 6–8 months. This is not a guarantee for every backyard heap or garden. Composting conditions matter, so check local acceptance before disposal and never leave used material in nature. Read the disposal guidance.
